Menorca Airport is located five kilometres southwest of Mahon, the capital of Menorca. It has a single passenger terminal and offers both regularly scheduled commercial flights and chartered flights to destinations around Europe. A lot of air traffic is seasonal, peaking in the summer months.
In the terminal, passengers can make use of an information desk, free WiFi, ATMs and currency exchange outlet, a children’s playroom and food and drink concessions.
Car hire companies in Menorca with a counter in the airport terminal can be found on the ground floor.
Our tips aim to help you make the most of your time with a Menorca car hire. Take a look at our list of road trip essentials for some pointers on packing.
Driving from Menorca Airport to Mahón
For many visitors, the nearby capital city is the first port of call. To get there in your Menorca Airport car hire, turn left as you depart the terminal onto the Me-14 and then veer right at the roundabout onto the Me-12. Continue straight through two more roundabouts and the road will become the Carrer de Vassallo which leads directly into the city centre.
Driving tips for your Menorca rental car
Driving in Menorca is much the same as driving your car rental in the rest of Spain. The laid-back nature of the place makes it easy to travel around - just make sure that you pull over to enjoy the view rather than trying to do it while behind the wheel!
Spain car hire driving tips
● In Spain, as in the rest of continental Europe, all traffic drives on the right.
● Speed limits in Spain go as high as 120 kilometres per hour on dual carriageways. Drive carefully at high speeds.
● Roundabouts are common in Spain and around Menorca. Remember to give way to any traffic already on the roundabout.
● Familiarise yourself with the native names of places in Spanish or Catalan - i.e., Mao rather than anglicised Mahon - to ensure you can understand directional signs.
● The blood alcohol concentration limit for drivers in Spain is set low at 0.05%. One drink could put you over the line - so we recommend abstaining completely from alcohol before driving.
Short-term parking in the airport lot called P1 costs just a few Euros an hour, up to a daily maximum of €11.50 in the low season and €14.50 in the high season. Long-term parking is available in P2 at similar rates for the first four days, and €5.75 per day thereafter.
You will find free parking on streets and in public or business parking lots around much of Menorca and may have to pay a few Euros in the city and town centres. Blue lines indicate a “pay and display” area where you will need to find the meter and get a ticket that goes on your dashboard.
