Could you tell us a bit more about yourself? Your hobbies or extracurricular activities?
I’m originally from Washington, D.C. and currently live in San Diego by way of the Big Island of Hawaii. I am very close with my family, but I am the only one who lives on the west coast. I enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. My favorite activities are gardening, hiking, doing yoga, and painting for diy home improvement crafting projects.
Why did you choose to study your chosen course?
I chose to major in environmental sustainability because it is my passion. Whether it is one’s focus of study or not, the point is that we all share this planet. I know that with this focus, I will be able to impact so many people in a positive way. With this choice, I will be able to lead research projects, education, and even consult cities and businesses to go green.
What does travel mean to you?
To me, travel means experiential education. I took three gap years in between high school and college to travel and learn from as well as contribute to other communities. Traveling is a way to make connections and to expand perspective.
What has been your favourite travel destination or place?
My favorite travel experience was visiting Nicaragua with a mission team to build houses, serve food, and establish a community garden. We stayed for three weeks and got to experience full immersion within the culture and community.
What part of your tuition fees will this $3000 cover?
This scholarship will cover my tuition and study materials, thank you so much.
What would your advice be to our next year's applicants? What should they pay attention to?
My advice to next year’s applicants is to realize that there is no cookie-cutter thought process. The best way to organize your message is to have a conversation with somebody so that you can vocalize yourself and bounce ideas off of them.
