Experience the best of Norway’s north with a car hire from Bodo
Bodo, situated on the fjord-indented coast halfway up long, skinny Norway, is an important hub of commerce and services for anyone venturing into the wilds of the country’s northern reaches. As the northern terminus of the Norwegian rail network, it sees many visitors passing through and is well-equipped to keep them fed, housed and entertained. Although it is often used as a jumping-off point for expeditions north, the city has plenty of natural beauty in its own right, set against a backdrop of mountains peaks and endless skies.
A car hire from Bodo is invariably the beginning of something wonderful, and there are many directions you could take upon hitting the road: south to Sandnessjoen, Trondheim and eventually Bergen and Oslo, inland to Fauske and the border with Sweden, or of course north to Tromso and the incredible landscapes and attractions of the Arctic Circle.

A guide to Bodo
This Norwegian town and municipality is the capital of Nordland County. The town centre was rebuilt after bombing in WW2, and while Bodo lacks much in the way of beautiful old architecture, it boasts gorgeous scenery, amazing coastlines and several interesting museums including the Norway Aviation Museum and Salten Museum. The nearby islands support a significant population of sea eagles, making these majestic birds a reasonably common sight in and around the town. Hikers flock here to enjoy nearby trails.
Bodo gets a lot of wind due to its remote coastal location, and has a subpolar oceanic climate, with snow during the surprisingly mild winter and the “Midnight Sun” remaining above the horizon all night long for six weeks or more in midsummer.
Bodo Airport (BOO) is located on a peninsula just outside of town, with regularly scheduled flights mostly to domestic airports, with seasonal flights to European destinations.

Norway car hire driving tips
● While Norway’s roads are well-maintained, the landscape necessitates some steep and windy routes. Always drive carefully and use your engine to slow down where possible.
● Norway’s network of toll roads is all cashless. Ask your rental provider about an electronic collection device, or use your number plate to pay tolls online.
● Stock and wild animals on the road can be of concern for drivers in Norway. Keep an eye out.
● Norway gets cold and snowy, particularly in the north! Prepare for a winter wonderland with our winter driving tips, and pack with staying warm in mind if you are travelling at that time of year.
● Seatbelt use is compulsory throughout Norway, and the use of mobile phones while driving is banned.
