To pick up your rental car from a city depot, you will need to make your own way there. Please see the map below for the locations of the depots. Once you arrive, have your reservation details and your drivers license ready to make checking in as efficient as possible. All listed drivers will need to present their drivers license. You can then collect your keys and hire car from onsite.
Rentals companies located near Christchurch International Airport have free shuttles to the depots from the airport. If you are not arriving by air and have booked a rental car with Christchurch Airport location of one of these companies, you can still make your way to the depot to collect your vehicle.
To return your rental car, make your way back to the same depot you collected it from. You can then hand the keys and completed rental contract back to staff at the rental counter. If you are flying out of Christchurch Airport and are dropping your car back to Go Rentals, Rental Cars 24/7 or Touchdown Car Rentals, you will be able to get a shuttle service from the depot to the airport.
Some rental companies allow after hours drop offs, meaning outside of their business hours. For example, this is possible with Avis, who require you to park your car in a dedicated space and then put your contract and keys in a drop box onsite. Make sure you double check for personal belongings before you leave the vehicle.
Search and compare car rental options on our Christchurch Airport car rental page.

Christchurch City Centre has undergone a lot of changes because of the devastating earthquake that occurred in 2011. There is a real mix of old and new, with the Arts Centre representing Christchurch before the earthquake and Riverside Market representing after the earthquake. The former is steeped in heritage and is near to Christchurch Art Gallery and Canterbury Museum. While the latter is a modern and international food hall, adjacent to a string of new restaurants and bars along the Avon River. Let's not forget that Christchurch is also known as the Garden City, thanks to its sprawling Botanic Gardens on the edge of the central city. Central Christchurch is a great place to explore, shop and dine.
