A city of two halves, Kingston’s two central areas are comprised of Downtown Kingston and Uptown Kingston. The two don’t often mix and mingle, and each have their own quirks and culture. Downtown Kingston is full of historical buildings, museums and galleries, and is home to many of the city’s businesses. Uptown Kingston is known for its spectacular restaurants, fantastic accommodation options and beautiful parks. Driving your car hire in Kingston
While getting around in Kingston is pretty straightforward, many rural roads tend to be windy, have potholes, and are poorly lit. For safety purposes, it is best to take your take your time if you’re headed out of the city, and avoid driving at night.
Driving to and from Norman Manley International Airport
The Kingston Airport is located on a sandspit 25km from Kingston CBD. From the airport, take Norman Manley Highway and follow the road over to the island, taking a left onto Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway at the roundabout. Continue onto Port Kingston Causeway, and take a right onto Marcus Garvey Drive. You’ll be in the city in around 35 minutes.

Tips for driving in Kingston
● In Jamaica, motorists drive on the left hand side of the road and give way to the right, unless stated otherwise.
● The speed limit in urban areas is 50km/h, 80km/h on open rural roads, and up to 110km/h on the freeways. Always look out for speed limit changes.
● Unfortunately, many people speed, and illegally drive after consuming alcohol. Be extra vigilant when out in the evenings.

Where to park your rental car
Norman Manley International Airport has one parking zone which includes short and long-term parking. Stay for up to an hour at a cost of J$150.00, and J$150.00 per hour thereafter. The daily maximum is J$600.00.
On-street parking is available in Kingston’s CBD, and you’ll find many parking lots and garages throughout the city. On the weekends, however, these lots and garages are often closed; plan your trip accordingly.
