One of the biggest racing series of all time is about to kick off for 2017 with the Australian Grand Prix on March 26th. With 20 different Grand Prix events taking place around the world this year, there are plenty of opportunities to get in on the Formula One scene and see the world’s fastest road course racing cars in action. While some are lucky enough to have a Grand Prix event taking place close to home, most of us will have to catch a plane (or at the very least take a road trip) to have a shot at watching some of the most exciting motorsports on the planet.
Having a set of wheels at your command once you touch down will not only make your life a lot easier, but it will also give you the flexibility to really make the most of the time at your destination. And what better way to get into the spirit of Formula One than picking up a car rental with a few more horses under the hood than you’d usually choose? Sure, you could book a bargain bin special, something that looks like an eco-friendly blob and drives like a tonka toy - or you could pick out a car with the kind of class and muscle you deserve. Take a sneak peek below at some of the impressive specimens that you could be driving to an upcoming Formula One event.
For the Australian Grand Prix, March 26th - Melbourne
You’ll need to start booking pretty soon if you want to pick up a vehicle in time for the Australian Grand Prix, especially one that’s worthy of a Formula One trip. If you get in quick though, there’s still some really fun options out there. The BMW 2 Series convertible has the perfect combination of power, luxury and fun, and you can drive this Melbourne Airport car hire away directly from both the International and Domestic terminals. The Mercedes CLA 200 boasts a stunning silhouette and when it rolled off the line a few years ago it was the most aerodynamic production car ever built - there’s plenty of room on the inside too, so with this luxury car rental you can bring the family along without plumping for a boring people mover.
For the Bahrain Grand Prix, April 17th - Bahrain
The tiny island nation of Bahrain makes up for its diminutive size with impressive architectural achievements, among which is the Bahrain International Circuit, lauded as the one of the safest tracks in the world. Picking up a rental Cadillac ATS from Bahrain International Airport will have you feeling ready to hit the track yourself, with racing inspired features built within a powerful, commanding exterior. The feline look of the Ford Taurus may appeal to others - this muscular machine is fast, quiet (on the inside) and has excellent control.
For the Spanish Grand Prix, May 15th - Barcelona
There’s a sense of tradition that goes with attending a Spanish Grand Prix - this is one of the world’s oldest motor races, coming up to its 104th anniversary in 2017. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was the track where Ayrton Senna and Nigel Manson had their famous neck-and-neck duel down the front straight, and where Michael Schumacher stormed to his first Ferrari win in torrential rain. A classic luxury car rental is the perfect accompaniment to the Spanish Grand Prix, and the Audi A8 delivers on this in spades. Praised for its beauty and design, the A8 is no slouch on the performance front either with a 333 horsepower supercharged V6 under the hood and your Barcelona car rental can be picked up straight from Barcelona Airport.
A Formula One Grand Prix is the perfect excuse to treat yourself and enjoy a finer class of vehicle, if only for a few days - make sure to book your car rental soon though, as these models tend to go quick.
NB: Due to the nature of car rental bookings, Airport Rentals cannot guarantee that these specific models will be available during the given time period.
